The Ultimate Sporting Estate
The Estate offers some of the best game shooting available in Perthshire. Whether shooting pheasant or grouse or stalking deer, you will appreciate the high quality of sport on the Estate.
The River Tay is justly famous for its salmon fishing. The Estate offers over six miles of the lower Tay fishings between Luncarty and Perth, with some forty named pools. Both fly fishing and spinning are available. The fishings are let with the service of an experienced ghillie, and each beat is equipped with a comfortable fishing hut and a boat with outboard motor.
Salmon Fishing
The Estate’s riverbank ownership includes almost three miles of the left bank and over a mile of both banks of the River Tay. Most lets are organised on a weekly basis for parties of up to six rods depending on the time of year.
The rod fishing season is from 15th January to 15th October, with the best fishing currently from August onwards. The record basket for a week of five rods is 182 fish, achieved in October 1996. Summer grilse runs provide exciting opportunities, giving way to the renowned autumn runs of bigger fish.
Famous Beats
Scone boasts some of the finest salmon fishings on the lower section of the Tay. The Waulkmill, Goldcastle, Knoweshead and Fishpond beats are justly famous. Reciprocal arrangements are worked with the proprietors of the opposite banks whereby the beats are fished on an alternate day basis, allowing access from both banks.
On Wednesday 15th September 2010, Peter Ellis caught a magnificent 21lb Salmon on the Waulkmill beat. Peter caught this fish on a fly named after his new grand daughter who was born only an hour earlier! After proudly photographing his catch he released the fish back into the river.

Grouse
Grouse shooting can be organised for parties of up to nine guns from 12th August to early October. Driven or walked up days can be arranged, depending on stock numbers.
Pheasant
Pheasant shooting is now let by the beat. Driven and rough days can be arranged through the shooting tenants. If interested in pheasant shooting on the Estate or a shooting let please fill in a contact form stating your interest.
Mixed Rough Days
From early September to the end of January days of mixed shooting can be organised for parties of up to nine guns. These normally comprise a combination of walked up and driven shooting, and can be tailored to the client’s wishes. Bags of 50 to 150 head of game can include pheasants, woodcock, duck, pigeons, snipe, hare and rabbits. Bookings can be taken for individual or consecutive days. Pigeon shooting days for up to five guns can also be arranged.
Red and Roe Deer
As the hill land on the north western edge of the estate is principally a grouse moor and is situated the southern edge of the red deer range, very few stags are taken each year, normally at the very end of the season. Arrangements can be made for stalking stags by the day up to the 20th October. Alternatively, the hind stalking season runs from 21st October to 15th February. Roe shooting is up to four rifles and is available during May and early June and is normally subject to a long-term lease.
