This short film is called 'Tread Softly at Christmas'.
It was filmed in 1958 and was entered into the Institute of Amateur Cinematographers Amateur Film Competition in 1960.
The film was produced by the late Earl of Mansfield, then Lord Stormont, under the name "Stormont Films". It depicts the family soon after they moved back into the Palace after Craigmount School had left and considerable restoration and modernising works had been completed. It features Lord Rollo, a close friend of the family, as a thief trying to break into the Palace. He is caught in the act and chased off by Mungo and Dorothea, 7th Earl and Countess of Mansfield, their two daughters, Lady Malvina and Lady Mariota Murray (later Countess of Moray and Lady Mariota Napier) and daughter-in-law Pamela, the late Countess of Mansfield.
The footage also includes two members of staff: the family butler, Peter Clark, and housekeeper, Mrs McHardy. The film was "Commended" by the Institute with the certificate on display behind the screen.
